Online SDF Dental CE Course
Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) is a colorless liquid that at pH 10 is 24.4% to 28.8% (weight/volume) silver and 5.0% to 5.9% fluoride. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified SDF as a Class II medical device and it is cleared for use in the treatment of tooth sensitivity, which is the same type of clearance as fluoride varnish, and must be professionally applied. It is currently being utilized in dental treatment to combat tooth decay and dental caries
This CE course reviews fundamentals of this recently FDA-approved caries arresting agent which provides an alternative to extensive restorative treatment with sedation and anesthesia, especially in pediatric and geriatric patient populations. The course reviews pros and cons of treatment, appropriate patient selection (including UCSF treatment protocols) and the position of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Reviews ideal treatment and how SDF is applied. SDF application is a "hot topic" in the media, affecting pediatric and elderly patients. Unfortunately, although SDF is an effective anti-caries treatment, clinical trials have emphasized the non-esthetic aspect of black stain associated with its use. It still helps address the dental treatment of special needs patients and is an important adjunct to improve the oral health of both pediatric and elderly patient populations. In appropriate cases it can stabilize carious lesions and replace or augment the use of glass ionomer cement to restore primary teeth and various tooth surfaces in senior patients.
California Dental Board approved CE for license renewal. AGD PACE Nationally approved CE. Self-directed remote distance learning online dental continuing education course.

Game changer
Great coverage of controversial treatment. Not esthetic but could prevent a lot of pediatric and geriatric dental misery.

My 1st intro to this product!
I just worked in an office as a fill-in hygienist, and the doctor asked me to bring him the silver diamine fluoride and I’ve never heard of it before, I’ve been practicing for 50 years, but in the practices I have been in there I have never been in use of that. I was very interested in finding out how beneficial it could be in some cases.

Silver Diamine Fluoride
Course explains well the protocols for prescribing SDF for treatment of pedo and geriatric patients. Apparently works effectively but esthetics is king where I practice so doubt it will be embraced.
