CE Requirements for Dentist in Hawaii
For the license renewal period January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023: The Hawaii Board of Dentistry requires dentists to complete continuing education (CE) in the following areas:
- 6 hours of ethics training during each 2-year renewal period
- 32 hours of approved CE during each 2-year renewal period
- Basic Life Support (BLS) course sponsored by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- If the dentist administers general anesthesia or moderate sedation they are also required to complete the Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) course. If treating pediatric patients they must complete the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course
- A maximum of 8 CE hours may be obtained through online or correspondence courses
- Online home study may be completed through an AGD-PACE Approved Provider
CE Requirements for Dental Hygienist in Hawaii
Registered Dental Hygienists licensed in Hawaii must complete CE in the following areas:
- 2 hours of ethics training during each 2-year renewal period
- 20 hours of approved CE during each 2-year renewal period
- Basic Life Support (BLS) course sponsored by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- A maximum of 8 CE hours may be obtained through online or correspondence courses
- Online home study may be completed through an AGD-PACE Approved Provider
WAIVERS for Hawaii Dental CE Course
A waiver or modification for required CE hours may be granted based upon:
- Full-time military service in the armed forces of the United States
- Incapacitating illness documented by a physician
- Being disabled and unable to practice dentistry or dental hygiene
- Retirement from practice
- Undue hardship or other extenuating circumstances
